Hey there boys and... boys... man so many boys... Anyways, I want to officially announce that I am working on an RPG based on every single person who has posted on this forum, Italic Forums, and even people who were somehow involved in its creation! As of right now, all of the work I've done has just been me chipping away at the system for the game, but from what I've done, I feel as though I should be able to make a 100% functional RPG system after a couple more weeks of development. If I'm lucky, this project won't die, and we'll have an excellent product! Now, here is my current task and its completion levels: Task: Combat System Goal 1: Turn taking system: complete. Goal 2: Basic enemy actions/A.I: complete. Goal 3: Battle menu, including organizing menu options: complete. Goal 4: Advanced targeting system: complete Goal 5: Advanced A.I.: 5% Goal 6: Set up scripts for attacks, including quicktime events and the like: 10% Also other special little things that break normal conventions of attacks, like just healing or damaging or etc. Goal 7: Aesthetics (Camera, scaling, enemy/character placement): 0% The functionality is complete! The rest is all stuff that actually makes the game not suck / constitutes the game. Otherwise the system works like working! The next part is crap that you guys don't have to just watch and wait for! Yes, I am talking about the game design itself! Party Members [1] Kiorein Kiorein is the protagonist of the game. He's the leader of The Squad, and is The First Guy. While a fairly weak leader at heart, he struggles to keep the team from falling apart. Abilities:
Stats (ratings) Health:6 Defense:8 Strength:5 Magic:7 Speed:5 [2] Instant Fox Kiorein's 'pal'. He was coerced into joining after Kio found out he had the Skates powerup. He's The Second Guy, and mostly sticks around because he gets a cut of whatever cash they come across. Abilities:
Stats: Health:5 Defense:6 Strength:6 Magic:9 Speed:8 [3] Pregga Zexas Gas-mask and boxing glove wearing Third Guy. He's really eccentric, and gets excited whenever he's around horses. The powerhouse of the group, his fists are mighty. Abilities:
Stats: Health:9 Defense:5 Strength:9 Magic:4 Speed:6 [4] Khrene Cleaver The Fourth Guy
Health:10 Defense:7 Strength:4 Magic:6 Speed:4 [5] Starmaster The fifth guy. Possibly going to be a girl in this game, since he wasn't to averse to it. I know bro it's weird but hey. Abilities:
Stats: Health:4 Defense:5 Strength:2 Magic:10 Speed:9 [6] Quave The sixth guy! Is this kid really on our side? He seems kinda shady! Abilities:
Stats: Health:5 Defense:5 Strength:5 Magic:10 Speed:8 [7] Swanson The seventh guy. Brings cake to the battlefield! Abilities:
Stats: Health:7 Defense:7 Strength:7 Magic:7 Speed:4 [8] TMX The eighth guy? Abilities:
Stats: Health:6 Defense:10 Strength:5 Magic:4 Speed:7 [9] Srol The ninth guy, has the clock power up! Abilities:
Stats: Health:8 Defense:7 Strength:5 Magic:7 Speed:6 Villains:
More info to come. Now go and request stuff. Edited by Kiorein, Feb 27 2010, 12:50 PM.

No need for me to reply really, because Kio and I were talking about ideas in chat. Just posting to kickstart the thread off the no replies zone. |

Okay, here's an idea I had. The first part of the game could be Kio gathering the squad. Like their's some crazy prophecy that he must gather a group of people to save the world and he goes out looking for them. We would get some kind of tutorial with just Kio on how to play the game and then he would head into Instant's Place. In Instant's place the enemies would consist of foxes and some other low-level enemy. After making it through his place and to his bedroom you finally meet Instant. But, he's not happy to see you. You just made him lose count of all the money he stole, for that you will pay. So, the first boss battle is Instant and after defeating him, he joins the squad. Next, you go to Pregga's Zone which is very similar to Nazi Germany. The enemies there are all different weapon-wielding Nazis (yes, there's flame-thrower ones.) After you go through the area Pregga goes on a long tirade about you killing all his Nazis and then, of course, you must fight him. After that he reluctantly joins the squad. Next, you go to the Wil' Wil' West. The enemies are basically bandits and snakes. After going through you meet Khrene who joins without a fight. After that, the gang uses Instant's magic cloak to go to Starmaster's Space Station. The enemies here are various aliens and people in spacesuits. Once you get to the cockpit Star is waiting, and she's pissed. She explains that she left Earth because everyone treated her poorly and she is pissed that you ruined her sanctuary. Naturally, a boss fight occurs, after beating her she agrees to join and she lands the space station back on the planet. As everyone exits the space station, Quave appears and says he heard about the search for people for "bomber powers" and joins the team. Next, you head to the Land O' Cake where Swanson resides. The enemies here are various cakes and candies. Eventually you find Swanson and he agrees to join. Finally, the last guy, Srol. Srol's Waiting Room has no enemies as everything is frozen, waiting for something. You effortlessly make it to where he is and he freezes all of the characters. He then give a insightful rant about how he been waiting all this time for them to show up so he could kill them. Srol decides to help save the world before killing us all and so he joins. After that....I don't know. Thoughts on my proposal? |

I don't wanna have to go through a whole dungeon just to recruit someone! D: I'm too lazy for that... I mean, you still have to deal with GT and me after that and we're the villains! If Swanson`s post WERE to be used for the game it seems like more time would be spent recruiting people to get the job done than actually getting the job done. |

CT, my god, you have to be the biggest jackass in the world. I spent an hour writing and coming up with that and your reason for turning it down is because you're lazy! You fucking cunt! Nevermind the fact that the dungeons would be pretty short, only consisting of 3 or 4 rooms, but the entire recruiting process would take no more than 2 hours depending on your RP skills, that's not even 1/4th of a normal RPG! Honestly, this is what I get for deciding to unignore CT! |

Actually, Swanson, ignoring your pointless and overly dramatic personal attack on CT, which was utterly uncalled for, I agree with CT's sentiments. For one thing, you never specified how long these zones would be, it was a cause for concern, and seriously, those really DO seem like large areas, Pregga Zone is like a country, Land of Cake sounds like a massive land. Yes, if short your plan works, I was about to make a post shortening it, because what you wrote DOES seem really long. |

Game System: Stats: Strength: Enhances damage of most physical attacks. Dexterity: Enhances damage of some physical attacks and makes attacks have more accuracy and less variance. Health: Amount of damage you can take before dying. Power: Resource used for magic. Energy: Resource used for some magic and some physical attacks. Defense: Defense against physical attacks Power Defense: Defense against magical attacks Resistance: Resistance to natural status effects. Lowers duration and effectiveness. Power Resistance: Resistance to magical status effects. Lowers duration and effectiveness. Cool Points: Luck stat, but also generally boosts all stats. Rises slowest. Damage Types: ...To be detailed later. In short, enemies will have varying resistance to certain types of attacks, ranging from 100% resistance to a 100% weakness, and everything in between. Level Ups: Level ups will not be handled by granting experience and then raising levels in that fashion. Rather, you will be rewarded Stat Points after each battle, depending on what happened during the fight, and what enemy was faced. A minimum bonus will be given for each character to each stat. Each stat will level on its own. It will be influenced by: -What abilities were used during the fight -How much the person got hit -What kind of attacks were used on the user As stats raise, all other stats will also level slower. However, low stats will still raise quickly. Proficiency: -Each character will be proficient in different abilities. After a fight, all proficiency skills will increase regardless of whether the ability was used. However, heavily used abilities will receive more of a bonus. After a certain amount of skill-ups, nothing will increase anymore. -As proficiency in a skill increases, the abilities will work better, and the user will learn more abilities. -You can have a character opt out of proficiency bonuses if you are heavily using an ability at some point, but don't want to waste all of the skill ups on it. They'll skill up slower in this condition, but it can be strategically sound. Pool Powers In each turn, the user will be able to take more than one action. The first action is a standard RPG move, doing an attack, or using an item. The second is activating a Pool Power. Each character will have a pool of powers to draw aid from. They can add a maximum of 100 powers to their pool, and utilize 50 of them in combat. Pool Powers will be handled in a fashion similar to a hand of cards. At the beginning of the fight, 3 of these powers are drawn from their set of 50 at randomly. Then, during the pool round of their turn, they pull another power. They can use one of them per turn. So, until their entire pool runs out, they'll always have at least three, and if they don't pull any power and build up five, they'll be unable to get anymore until they use some. The pool powers won't function like attacks. They are unaffected by the user's stats, and always have the same effect. In addition, non-immediate effects act similar to status effects, they will show a sign of being active, and only one can be applied at a time. Here are the types: Immediate Effect: Functions the same as using an item. Does something immediately. Example: Potion: Heals target by 10 HP. Reactionary Effect: Used when the character blocks, so timing matters. These are usually defensive, but may cause an opponent's attack to backfire. Example: Long Guard: The next time the user blocks, they can hold the blocking position for a small amount of extra time, making it easier to block. Example: Revenge: The next time the user blocks an attack, a portion of the damage is sent back to the target. The damage is subject to reduction by defense and resistance. Add On: Adds on to an attack for an added effect. Example: Poison Strike: The next perfectly performed physical attack will also poison the target. Automatic: Activates immediately when the conditions are met. Example: Non-Dispel: If an ability is used that dispels a pool power, this pool power is dispelled instead of all others. Regular abilities and pool powers will also intermingle, including regular abilities that can negate the effects of opponent's pool powers. I'll add more but this is good for now Yeah, stair, this isn't funny. Cut it out. Now. Edited by Kiorein, Jan 12 2010, 08:55 PM.

CT, lots of games are like that. I'd be suprised that "I will go with you only if you do something for me first" isn't a trope yet. |

That's what GT is saying I've also successfully made an inventory code. Currently you cannot scroll through it, but you can add items to it, and that's the important part. Press Space to add a random item with a random amount. To do list: -Make you able to scroll through the items -Make them usable -Make a code that makes the items fill gaps (low priority) Man, this is so good it could go in the Game Maker Examples & Tutorials Section... at least unless there's bugs. Note: will not work with Vista, I need to update game maker for that ;( The files below are 1: Executable item code 2: Item's source code (you'll need game maker to open this. I don't think it needs registered version) 3: Current battle system source code, you'll need game maker 4: Current battle system executable Also the battle system is NOT playable, all you can do is look at the battle menu, press space to make the options show up, and left and right to scroll through it. If you press right too many times you will get an error. With Vista or Windows 7, you CAN access these if you install game maker. The battle system needs registered, so you'll have to get a crack. I suggest you guys all get game maker if you want to work with me on this, as it's a lot more efficient to share this if they're in tiny game maker files, and you can also look at the code for yourselves and stuff. Also: If you look at the source code, you'll see some values like maximum stackage that are never used, ignore it, it's working as intended. Edited by Kiorein, Jan 13 2010, 08:08 AM.
